E-commerce platform Mumzworld.com continues to go from strength to strength as it announces the closure of its fifth round of funding to date. In its latest Series B round, Mumzworld has raised an undisclosed amount led by investors Wamda Capital and Swicorp, which brought a group of new investors including KSA-based healthcare firm Tamer Group. Moreover, seven of Mumzworld’s existing investors have joined the round including Precinct Partners, WSB Holding, and Saned, as well as new investors consisting of a KSA-based conglomerate, and other companies in similar segments with manufacturing and distribution capacities in the mother and child categories. In addition to all this, the enterprise claims to be also in advanced talks with two other investors that are interested in joining the round.

Millions for Mumzworld - Mumzworld.com graces the cover of CPI Financial Magazine
Online shopping platform Mumzworld has just secured a multi-million dollar investment in its series B funding round. The website, dedicated to giving mothers a wide choice of quality products for their children and themselves, saw investments from Wamda Capital, twofour54, and Endeavor Catalyst, with further investments made by Precinct Partners and WSB Holding as well as increased stakes in the company by several pre-existing investors. The round closed with Mumzworld exceeding its original target by 40 per cent.
“This was our most important round to date, both financial and strategic,where we got some strong regional investors in, including sellers from Lebanon,Turkey and Saudi. This round was about making sure we were reaching out to investors who can take us to the next level, which is about quick, quick growth,” said Mumzworld CEO, Mona Ataya.

Web-savvy parents in Saudi Arabia are being targeted by a new online retail portal specialising in products for children.
Mona Ataya, a mother of three boys and a founder of the recruitment site Bayt.com, is now the chief executive of the Mumzworld.com, based in Dubai. Ms Ataya discusses her company's strategy for focusing on Saudi Arabia's US$716 million (Dh2.62 billion) online retail market.

In the wake of the rising tide of internet connectivity, Gulf businesses, especially start-ups, are eschewing a brick-and-mortar approach and embracing the cyber world. Mona Ataya is one entrepreneur whose business ideas are planted firmly online. A mother of three sons — twins Sufian and Tareq, aged seven, and Yousuf, four — she knows only too well the challenges that come with bringing up children. "When I had my first children, I had no idea what they needed and where to buy it," Ataya said. "I spent hours researching on the internet and looking at different shops in Dubai." It proved to be time well spent. Scouring both the online and offline outlets, Ataya saw a gap in the market for an online shopping and information portal dedicated to everything a mother, baby and child would need. This resulted in the launch of mumzworld.com in October.
